Ingredients
  

  • Kosher salt, 1 teaspoon
  • Freshly ground black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon
  • Coconut aminos, 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil, 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced, 2 cloves
  • Ginger, grated, 1 tablespoon
  • Honey, 1 tablespoon
  • Red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable or canola oil, 2 tablespoons
  • Tuna steaks, sashimi-grade, 4 (6–8 oz each)

Method
 

  1. Whisk coconut aminos, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, honey, and red pepper flakes in a bowl to make marinade
  2. Add salt, pepper, and vegetable oil to marinade
  3. Place tuna steaks in a non-reactive dish, pour marinade over them
  4. Chill for 30 minutes (do not marinate longer than 2 hours)
  5. Preheat grill to high heat
  6. Grill tuna 3–4 minutes per side (avoid overcooking)
  7. Rest for 3 minutes before serving

Notes

Use fresh garlic for optimal flavor
Marinate in a zip-top bag for easy handling
Cook on cast-iron for best sear
Serve with quinoa or grilled bok choy for Asian-inspired sides
