Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 pound ground chicken (or substitute with tofu, turkey, or beef)
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • 2–3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1–2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1–2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1–2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet. Cook onion and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add ground chicken and cook until browned. Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, sesame oil, and ginger.
  3. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until chicken is fully cooked.
  4. Serve in lettuce cups with toppings of choice (e.g., shredded carrots, cilantro, lime).

Notes

Substitute apple cider vinegar for rice wine vinegar to avoid alcohol.
Use tamari instead of soy sauce for gluten-free option.
Lettuce cups can be filled with additional toppings like pickled radishes, mint, or crispy noodles.
