  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 medium green pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups cremini mushrooms, sliced thin
  • 2 teaspoons halal-certified Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded Colby jack cheese
  • 1 cup cooked basmati rice per serving

Method
 

  1. Cook the basmati rice according to package directions and set aside.
  2. Heat a large heavy-bottomed frying pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground beef to the pan and brown until meat is halfway cooked through.
  4. Incorporate the diced green peppers, onions, and mushrooms into the pan with the beef.
  5. Continue to cook until vegetables are softened and beef is cooked through.
  6. Stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to create a light jus.
  7. Reduce heat to low and top the mixture with shredded Colby jack cheese.
  8. Cover for 2 minutes to allow the cheese to melt uniformly.
  9. Serve portions over the prepared basmati rice.
