Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (no alcohol)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1/2 cup hot water (to mix with gravy mix)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for searing)

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently for 2 minutes—just enough to bind, not flatten.
  2. Place your skillet on medium heat until it reaches 110°C. Add oil, swirling until it sizzles softly.
  3. Portion the mixture into four ½-inch patties. Press gently to maintain thickness and sear 4 minutes per side until edges resist.
  4. In the background, mix gravy mix with hot water. Pour the gravy mixture around the patties in the skillet. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the gravy to thicken and flavors to meld. Serve warm.

Notes

Use 90%/10% lean beef for moisture and flavor.
Substitute breadcrumbs with crushed cornflakes for a gluten-free version.
Add steamed green beans for a healthy side.
Use a flat iron to ensure even patty thickness.
